Goo Goo Dolls announce holiday show in Buffalo with Rob Thomas

Here's an early Christmas gift for Buffalo music fans.

Star 102.5 FM announced a Deck the Hall Ball starring Buffalo's beloved Goo Goo Dolls and Rob Thomas, slated for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Buffalo RiverWorks (359 Ganson St.).

Tickets, which go on sale at 10 a.m. Oct. 4, cost $59.50 and will be available at Ticketmaster.com and MyStar1025.com. The show is open to all ages. Dean Lewis is the opener.

Almost a full year has passed since the Goo Goo Dolls last played their hometown; the 20th anniversary tour of "Dizzy Up the Girl" mesmerized at Shea's Buffalo Theatre last October. Before that gig, lead singer Johnny Rzeznik opened up to Tim O'Shei about his struggles with alcoholism and how his role as a father has changed his life.

Rob Thomas, also the lead singer of Matchbox Twenty, is touring off his solo disc, "Chip Tooth Smile," released in April. That marked his first individual release since 2015. Billboard wrote a feature on Thomas shortly before his most recent work hit the market.

The last Goo Goo Dolls connection to RiverWorks was bass player Robby Takac's Music Is Art, which took over the venue in September.
