Human remains were found Wednesday at a home on Box Avenue where FBI personnel had been investigating, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The remains of at least one person were found in a fire pit at the home, according to the source.
Investigators discovered the human bones after federal authorities executed a warrant related to a narcotics investigation, said the source, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed agency personnel were at the scene.
A man who was fixing his van on Box and Kehr Street said he saw police Wednesday evening combing through lots going toward Moselle Street.
Another man said police were at the scene from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
People in the neighborhood on Thursday said investigators appeared to be focused on the two empty lots between 211 and 225 Box.
A woman living at 211 Box Ave. said police knocked on her door at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, did not search or find anything inside her home and did not tell her what they were looking for.
