Record-setting University at Buffalo wide receiver Anthony Johnson was among 20 players released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday in advance of the NFL's roster cutdown.
Johnson, signed as an undrafted free agent in April, made five catches for 57 yards on 10 targets in the preseason.
Johnson was part of a deep group of wide receivers attempting to make the Bucs' roster. He was among 13 wide receivers whom Tampa Bay had in camp.
In two seasons at UB, Johnson became one of the school's most prolific receivers, finishing with 2,367 yards and 25 touchdowns on 133 catches. He was projected as a first-round draft choice at one point, but instead went undrafted after injuries hampered his participation in the pre-draft evaluations by NFL teams.
