A vehicle described by witnesses as a "shiny, white two-door sedan" stopped in the 2600 block of Ninth Street Saturday morning before an occupant fired at least two shots at a large deer that was walking in the area, killing the animal, Niagara Falls Police reported.
A witness told police she was sitting near the window of her home just after 7 a.m. when she saw the southbound vehicle first slow, then stop in the 2600 block of Ninth Street. It then quickly reversed and an occupant fired off at least two shots before the vehicle then sped off down Ninth Street. The witness then spotted what was described as a "large deer" lying on the sidewalk, bleeding from its hip area.
Police responding to the scene recovered a pair of spent 9mm shell casings in the street. The deceased deer was confiscated by state Department of Environmental Conservation officers, who will be taking over the investigation of the incident.
