New elevators that public housing tenants at the Lyndon B. Johnson Apartments off Humboldt Parkway have been requesting for almost a year are coming soon.
The Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners earlier this week approved two contracts totalling just under $731,000 to replace the two run-down elevators currently at the 10-story LBJ apartment building.
The new elevators are expected to be installed and operating by March, said BMHA Executive Director Gillian Brown.
The BMHA board also approved a $391,000 change order to a $600,000 contract the agency approved last May to repair and repave roadways and parking areas at the Langfield Homes.
The condition of the existing pavement is much worse than previously known, with the base asphalt less than two inches in many areas, said Willian Quinn, the BMHA's associate architect.
"Someone didn't put it down the way it was supposed to be done 25 years ago," Quinn told the BMHA board.
