Riverwalk on Buffalo’s West Side is an urban gem where one can enjoy healthy exercise while enjoying the beauty of the Niagara River.
There is a problem, however.
A section of path just south of River Grill next to I-190 is currently closed, blocked by a project to replace a water line used by the General Motors Tonawanda plant. Ongoing for over two years, the project cuts the path in half, leaving walkers or bikers with no alternative but to turn around. This defeats the purpose of having a continuous path from which to enjoy our beautiful river.
On Aug. 19, a perfect summer Monday, I walked to the project site from River Grill. There was no visible work being done. In fact, there was not a single human being in sight. This has me worried that the work “deprioritized” by GM, with no great urgency to finish it.
I urge GM to complete this work posthaste so that all can resume enjoying this beautiful public thoroughfare.
