On Friday, the staff of Linguine's Italian restaurant posted to Facebook that the new, improved spot had launched its soft opening.
Three hours later, the restaurant at 5380 Genesee St. was pretty much full, including the patio tables that have been added to the east side of the building.
Twenty-one months of deprivation makes people hungry.
Unlike the corner a few hundred yards east that Linguine's inhabited for 20 years, there are no gas pumps outside, but there is plenty of parking.
Construction took longer than anyone expected, but Linguine's is back. Standard warnings for fledgling operations apply: Go full of patience and understanding, or wait a couple weeks.
Vincent Desiderio, who runs the kitchen, has said the menu will largely stay the same at the new place. That means chicken milanese with bitter greens and pasta, a calamari salad with lemon and capers, stuffed peppers, and stuffed artichokes.
Linguine's typically offers at least one housemade pasta, like a tagliatelle crowned with pan-seared sea bass, tomatoes, garlic and olives.
