August 19-Sept. 2 – Fall Lake Ontario Counties (LOC) Trout and Salmon Derby. All information at www.loc.org. $25,000 Grand Prize for the largest salmon caught in the derby.

August 19-25 – Greater Niagara Fish Odyssey Derby in Erie, Niagara and Orleans counties. Youth Division is free for 15 and under. Adult Division is $20 per person for the derby or $10 for one day. Grand Prize $3,000. 7 Divisions in Adult and Youth. Check out www.fishodyssey.net.

August 21 – Safe Harbor Open Bass League one-day contest out of Safe Harbor Marina, Buffalo from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. $40 for one or two person teams. Best 3 fish. Pay at the launch.

August 23-24 – Innovative Outdoors Walleye Challenge out of Dunkirk in Lake Erie. Friday is Big Fish Friday and Saturday is the main tournament for best 6 fish per team. Teams of 2 to 5 people, up to 9 rod limit. Call 481-5348 for more info. www.innovative-outdoors.com/event-details.

August 23 and 30 – Goat Island Evening Walk at Niagara Falls State Park from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Call 282-5154 to register.

Sept. 1 – Deadline for registering for the Women’s Hunter Education Class at Springville Field and Stream, 8900 Chaise Road, Springville from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 7. Call 379-6378 to register.

Sept. 1-25 – Canada goose early nuisance season in effect with a 15 bird per person limit. Consult the DEC website at www.dec.ny.gov for more information and special regulations.

Sept. 1 – Squirrel season opens through Feb. 29, 2020. Consult the small game regulations at www.dec.ny.gov.

Sept. 2 – Final day, Lake Ontario Counties Fall Trout and Salmon Derby ending at 1 p.m. Awards ceremony to follow at Capt. Jack’s, Sodus Point in Wayne County starting at 4:30 p.m. Top two places plus Grand Prize winners should bring their fish and arrive by 3 p.m. www.loc.org
