Four visitors' cars broken into at downtown Falls hotels

Cars belonging to four out-of-town visitors were broken into early Saturday at a pair of downtown hotels, Niagara Falls Police reported. The amount of damage done to the vehicles far exceeded the value of any property taken.

An employee at the Kalika Hotel, 795 Rainbow Blvd., told police that he chased off a man who had been seen looking into cars in the parking lot between 3 and 4 a.m. The suspect, a black male with a white T-shirt pulled over his head, fled the area after being confronted by the employee.

Police determined that three cars had been burglarized, with windows smashed out of each. The only victim reporting a theft was a New Rochelle resident who had an older-model global positioning system valued at $100 taken from his vehicle.

A Michigan man's car was broken into in a similar manner at the Doubletree Hotel, 401 Buffalo Ave., around the same time, police said. He also reported nothing missing from the vehicle.
