The 180th Erie County Fair was a hit in more ways than one. It was the biggest ever at the turnstiles.
The Erie County Agricultural Society, which sponsors the 12-day event, announced late Sunday that this year’s attendance was 1,238,456, breaking the previous mark of 1,220,101, set in 2014. Last year's attendance, previously the second-best, was 1,198,789.
The fair opened Aug. 7 and concluded Sunday night. Among this year's highlights was the return of the Sky Wheel, the 80-foot-tall double Ferris wheel.
