UB law school grad appointed federal judge

The federal bench in Western New York has a new member – University at Buffalo law school graduate Mark W. Pedersen.

Pedersen, who is currently principal law clerk to U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa in Rochester, will become the region's newest federal magistrate judge on Nov. 5. His appointment, announced by Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci Jr., will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Magistrate Judge Jonathan W. Feldman.

Pedersen, a 1982 graduate of UB law school, joined the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps after leaving UB and served until 2013.

At the same time, he was working in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney and later in his position with the federal courts in Rochester.

Pedersen was picked by the district judges after a Magistrate Judge Selection Committee screened applications for the vacancy and recommended five finalists.
