Traffic stop leads to felony weapons charge

A 37-year-old Buffalo man was charged with illegally carrying a weapon following a traffic stop early Sunday morning at the intersection of Maple Ridge and Deerfield avenues.

Buffalo police said they pulled over a vehicle around 2:30 a.m. for running a stop sign at the intersection, just south of the Kensington Expressway.

During the traffic stop, an officer saw the handle of a firearm in the hoodie pocket of a passenger in the vehicle, according to a police report.

Police recovered a brown and silver .38 revolver and charged Lamont Courtney of Woodlawn Avenue with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.
