Northtowns residents still don't like people parking under trees on their streets

This week's Clarence Bee had a police blotter item about someone calling 911 to report a guy sitting in a car under a tree on a Northtowns side street.

Where have we heard that one before?

The Bee, known for its collection of often bizarre and amusing police calls, detailed a July 28 report about a suspicious vehicle.

The caller told police a car had been parked at East Howard and Cameron drives, south of Main Street, "for hours at a time with a man sitting in it," the Bee stated.

"Patrol spoke with the owner of the vehicle who is an elderly man," the item continued. "He stated that he just likes to park under the tree. The man lives a few houses from where he was parking."

Of course, the report of this very serious criminal matter reminded us of a suburbanite whose lunchtime parking habits also drew the ire of neighbors: the Town of Tonawanda sub eater.

John Pawlowski famously consumed the same sub from the same sub shop under the same tree on the same street nearly every week.

An April 2017 Off Main Street item, and subsequent Buffalo News coverage, drew national and international attention.

We alerted Pawlowski to this case of history repeating itself and wondered whether the Clarence man was eating a submarine sandwich.

"Might be time for an investigative report," Pawlowski wrote on Facebook.
