Kensington Avenue fire causes $280K in damage, displaces 18 residents

A two-alarm fire Friday that started in a residence in the first block of Kensington Avenue displaced 18 residents and caused an estimated $280,000 damage to two buildings, according to a spokesman for the Buffalo Fire Department.

The fire started on the first floor of 79 Kensington Ave. Buffalo firefighters responded to the call just before 6:25 p.m., said the spokesman, Michael DeGeorge.

He said fire investigators estimated the damage to 79 Kensington at $150,000.

A neighboring building at 85 Kensington suffered exposure damage that was estimated at $130,000, DeGeorge said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to DeGeorge, fire officials said a total of 18 people required assistance from the Red Cross.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
