A 19-year-old man from Pennsylvania drowned Thursday night in Lake Erie near Ripley Beach, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.
The man, identified Friday as Alex Musser of Waterford, Pa., was among four people who had gone to the area to go cliff jumping around 6 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said.
Two 19-year-olds jumped into the lake and authorities were subsequently called to the scene for a man in distress.
One of the 19-year-olds, also from Pennsylvania, was found on some rocks at the bottom of a cliff and treated for injuries that were apparently not life-threatening injuries. Musser had already drowned by the time first responders arrived at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.
The lake waters were very rough, but the Chautauqua County Water Extrication Team was able to recover Musser's body on Friday, according to the Sheriff's Office.
