Wilson girls basketball coach Brian Baker announced Thursday on social media a two-day girls basketball tournament to take place at Wilson High School on Friday, Dec. 6, and at Williamsville North High School on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The tournament will feature several teams that made it to the NYSPHSAA tournament last spring.
The slate of games on begins with Wilson hosting Section V’s Oakfield-Alabama at 5 p.m.
The Hornets fell to Maple Grove, 44-38, in last season’s Class C Far West Regionals.
Lockport vs. Section V Avon will follow at 6:30. Avon fell to Oakfield-Alabama in Section V’s Class C crossover last season, while Lockport lost to Jamestown in the Section VI quarterfinals.
Concluding the Friday matchups will be Class A-1 runner-up Grand Island taking on Elba, which was defeated in the Class D regional last season.
Saturday’s action will open at 11 a.m. with a match between Frontier and last season’s NYSPHSAA Class AA runner-up West Genesee from Section III.
The Falcons won their first Section VI title last season over Williamsville North before falling in the Regional round to Bishop Kearney.
Danielle Haskell and Class D champion Franklinville will play next against Section V Churchville-Chili at 1:30 p.m.
The Saints lost to Greece-Athena in their Sectional matchup last spring.
Panama will play Wilson to follow at 3 p.m. before East Aurora challenges Section V Dansville at 4:30 p.m.
The Mustangs won their first-ever Section V championship last spring after going 22-0.
Host Williamsville North will take on Omaha Mercy from Omaha, Neb. at 6 p.m.
Williamsville South will square off against NYSPHSAA Class A champion Pittsford-Mendon at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the tournament.
