Micah Hyde, Jerry Hughes among Bills not playing in preseason opener

Safety Micah Hyde, defensive end Jerry Hughes, cornerback Taron Johnson and running back LeSean McCoy are among the Buffalo Bills players who are not in uniform Thursday night for the preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

Free-agent center Mitch Morse also will not play as he remains in the concussion protocol. Cornerback E.J. Gaines is expected to miss weeks with a groin injury.

McCoy is not injured and will sit out this week to allow the Bills to get a look at Frank Gore. McCoy will play next week at Carolina and Gore will sit.

First-round pick Ed Oliver was among the starters on the defensive line with Trent Murphy, Star Lotulelei and Shaq Lawson. Corey Thompson started at linebacker along with Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano. Levi Wallace and Tre'Davious White were at corner along with Jordan Poyer and Kurt Coleman at safety.

Along the rebuilt offensive line, Jon Feliciano is at center with second-round pick Cody Ford at right guard, Ty Nsekhe at right tackle, Dion Dawkins at left guard and Quinton Spain at left guard.

Tommy Sweeney started at tight end, with a trio of new receivers in John Brown, Cole Beasley and Andre Roberts as the Bills opened the first series.
