DIG IN – Community gardeners in Lockport’s John Henry Park will hold a picnic at noon Saturday in the park on Prospect Street near Washington Street. Those who want to talk about gardening and share ideas to improve the gardens in the park are welcome to attend.
City officials and representatives from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County have been invited. Rain date is noon on Sunday. Garden plots in the park are available for a small fee. For info, call 439-6665.

TAKING WING – The Flying Knights of Hamburg will hold their 38th annual Model Aircraft Air Show this weekend at the Hamburg Recreation Center Model Air Park on Lake View Road near North Creek Road.
Flying demonstrations will include radio-controlled scale models of regular acrobatic planes along with miniature military aircraft. Flyers from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada will take part.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. For info, call Bob Waldraff at 649-2659.

WOODS ARE ALIVE – Friends of Reinstein Woods will host an artisan market and barbecue from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, 93 Honorine Drive off Como Park Boulevard, Depew.
Local artisans will offer jewelry, pottery and specialty goods along the trails. Dinner from BW’s Smokin’ Barrels BBQ includes either a pulled pork sandwich and chicken piece or vegetarian lasagna, two sides and a beverage. There also will be live music from the Buffalo Ukelele Club.
Admission to the market is free. Tickets for the barbecue dinner are $15 and can be purchased online at reinsteinwoods.org/events. For more info, call 683-5959.
