Coach Marv Levy has always been a class act and his opinion piece on kneeling during the national anthem during NFL games struck a chord with me.
When some of the players kneeled during the national anthem before a Buffalo Bills game, I immediately wrote a letter to the Pegulas and mailed a 3-foot-by-5-foot American flag we flew on Sept. 11 in 2016 during our “Healing Field” in Gratwick Park in North Tonawanda, where 3,000 American flags were displayed.
Every American flag had the name and brief biography of someone who died during those attacks in New York, over Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., I asked for this flag and biography to be displayed in the locker room to remind the players the flag represents much more than the cause they were representing.
No – I never received a reply by the Pegulas, so I was encouraged by Coach Levy’s remarks.
