A 23-year-old man was killed and a passenger was hospitalized in a one-vehicle crash Monday morning in Lockport, police said.
Police were called at 4:38 a.m. to the vicinity of 145 S. Transit St. where a vehicle crashed into a tree, according to Lockport police.
The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 23-year-old passenger was taken to Erie County Medical Center for unspecified injuries.
The driver and the car were licensed and registered in Virginia, police said.
The driver and passenger, who were northbound on South Transit, were traveling from the Buffalo area and heading to Medina. They crossed over the southbound lanes before hitting the tree, police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
