The University at Buffalo men's basketball team has finalized its fourth nonconference opponent on its 2019-20 schedule.
UB announced Thursday that the Bulls will play Dec. 3 at Vanderbilt, with a tipoff time and television assignment to be determined.
This will be the first meeting between the Bulls and the Commodores of the Southeastern Conference; Vanderbilt was 9-23 in 2018-19, and finished last in the 14-team SEC at 0-18. It's also a matchup of first-year coaches Jim Whitesell at UB and Jerry Stackhouse at Vanderbilt.
UB has yet to win a game against a current SEC opponent. UB lost, 89-73, at Texas A&M on Dec. 21, 2017, then lost to Kentucky 95-75, in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
The Bulls have six confirmed nonconference dates. The Bulls will face Harvard in the James Naismith Classic on Nov. 16 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, then are guaranteed three games when they play in the eight-team Charleston (S.C.) Classic on Nov. 21, 22 and 24. The Bulls open the tournament Nov. 21 against UConn, in a field that also includes Florida, Xavier, Towson, Saint Joseph's, Miami (Fla.) and Missouri State.
Canisius announced its nonconference schedule in July, and the Golden Griffins will play UB at Alumni Arena at 7 p.m. Dec. 18.
The 2019-2020 Division I men's basketball season is scheduled to begin Nov. 5. UB finished 32-4 in 2018-19, won the MAC Tournament and was eliminated by Texas Tech in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in March.
