Go, duck, go! Rubber duck canal race will raise money for Community Missions

Community Missions of Niagara Frontier will hold its 10th annual rubber duck race Saturday at the Canal Fest of the Tonawandas to raise money for its crisis and community services.

Ducks can be sponsored for prices starting at $5 apiece. At 3 p.m. Saturday, all of the ducks will be dumped into the Erie Canal from a Niagara County sheriff's boat. The first five to cross the finish line will win prizes for their owners. First place is $500.

The event raises money and awareness for the Mission's emergency housing shelter, community kitchen, clothes closet and other services.

Ducks are available beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Community Missions' tent on the Renaissance Bridge near the corner of Webster and Sweeney streets in North Tonawanda. They can also be purchased online at CommunityMissions.org through Friday. Prices range from $5 for one duck to $100 for a flock of 30. The race is sponsored by BXI Consultants.
