State police: Driver arrested on Thruway had BAC more than three times legal limit

A Buffalo man arrested on aggravated driving while intoxicated and other charges on the New York State Thruway was found to have a blood alcohol content more than three times the legal limit, according to state police.

Jose A. Sanchez, 50, was stopped on I-90 in the Town of Hamburg at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday for a vehicle and traffic violation, troopers said, when he was found to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody and transported to the Buffalo State Police office, where his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.25 percent, police said.

Aggravated driving while intoxicated is applied when a driver's blood alcohol level is 0.18 percent or higher. The legal limit is 0.08.

Sanchez was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor and a vehicle and traffic violation. He is expected to return to Hamburg Town Court on July 23.
