A Chautauqua County Sheriff's K9 unit located a group of 11 hikers, including nine children, Monday night after the group became lost for about 4½ hours.
The group, believed to be in the area of a creek near Park Road in Arkwright, was escorted out of a wooded area after a K9 located all 11 individuals, officials said. The nine children ranged from ages 4 to 19.
A 911 call was received by the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office just before 9:30 p.m. Responding were Sheriff’s Road Patrol, Cassadaga Fire Department, New York State Forest Rangers, members of the Chautauqua Area Search Team and K9s Drake and Bentley. A search of the area was conducted by the K9 unit and state rangers.
Two individuals sustained minor injuries, were treated at the scene by Cassadaga Fire Department and later transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.
