Donor's name coming to Columbus Square Park in Niagara Falls

The name of Chris Castellani, the owner of Supermarket Liquors in Niagara Falls, will be attached to the identity of a small privately owned park in the Falls' Little Italy section in a ceremony scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Columbus Square Park, an Italian heritage park at Pine Avenue and 15th Street, will be renamed Castellani Columbus Square Park — Heritage Walk.

The Pine Avenue Redevelopment Project, a group of local business owners and residents, announced that Castellani has pledged $5,000 a year toward the park's upkeep.

PARP took over the site in 2017 from the defunct Pine Avenue Business Association and managed to pay off a city water bill of more than $4,000, thwarting foreclosure.

Already, thanks to donations from Castellani, Catherine DiMino and Savino Nanula, more than $12,000 worth of repairs have been made to the garage, lighting, gazebo, bricks, bocce courts and landscape, said Sylvia Virtuoso, PARP secretary.
