State Police catch fleeing suspect after two-day search

The New York State Police announced Thursday that Edward R. Bancroft, who fled authorities Tuesday after a pursuit and collision in Wyoming County, had been located and was in police custody.

Bancroft, 31, of Angelica, fled into a wooded area following a collision that halted a vehicle pursuit in the Town of Eagle, troopers said. State Police, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation police and the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office conducted a search Tuesday but could not locate Bancroft.

Troopers said early Thursday that they were investigating a stolen ATV and a truck stolen in the Town of Almond; the truck was pursued to the town of Ossian, where the suspect, Bancroft, fled on foot. Troopers said Thursday that Bancroft was believed to be in the area of the Livingston/Allegany County line and that it was unknown whether he was on foot or had a vehicle.

Troopers said Bancroft is also a suspect in multiple larcenies in Wyoming, Allegany, Livingston and Steuben counties, as well as an arson in Allegany County – incidents that are under investigation by State Police and the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.
