Canisius hockey opens season at North Dakota Oct. 11

Canisius hockey announced its schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 season on Wednesday. The Griffs play a total of 34 regular season games, evenly split with 17 at home and 17 on the road.

Canisius opens its regular season against North Dakota in Grand Forks on Oct. 11-12. The two teams matched up last season with Canisius taking both contests against the perennial national powerhouse.

Canisius continues its schedule with the first game of a home-and-home series against RPI and former head coach Dave Smith on Oct. 19 in Troy. The other matchup will be Nov. 27 at Harborcenter.

The Griffs’ home opener at Harborcenter will be Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. against the U.S. National U-18 Team.

Finishing off their non-conference schedule is two home games against Union Nov. 1-2.

The annual “Battle of the Bridge” between Canisius and Niagara will be two games at Harborcenter Nov. 15-16 at 7:35 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

Those will be the only two meetings between the teams in the regular season.

From the Atlantic Hockey Conference Canisius will play Robert Morris (Nov. 8, Feb. 21), Army (Nov. 29-30), Holy Cross (Dec. 28-29), RIT (Jan. 4, Jan. 24), Air Force (Feb. 7-8), and AIC (Feb. 14-15) at home this season.

Canisius finished last season 12-20-5. They lost in the first round of the Atlantic playoffs, 2-1, to Niagara.
