While the Rochester Americans won't play a game in Buffalo's KeyBank Center for the first time since 2011-12, one of their 76 regular-season games in 2019-20 will take place in a National Hockey League venue.
The American Hockey League released its complete schedule for the 2019-20 season Wednesday, and it includes the Amerks facing the Toronto Marlies at Scotiabank Arena, home of the Maple Leafs, on March 17 at 1:30 p.m. The game is one of four the Marlies will play at their NHL affiliate's arena.
The Amerks, who are beginning their 64th season and 38th as an affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, were swept by the Marlies in three games of their first-round Calder Cup playoff series in April.
Rochester's Blue Cross Arena will host 26 of the Amerks' 38 home games on weekends, with 21 Friday home games, four Saturday and only one on Sunday, which will take place Feb. 16 against Utica at 3:05 p.m. That is the only Amerks home game that won't start at 7:05 p.m.
The Amerks announced Tuesday they will open the season at home against Syracuse on Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m., the first of 12 games between the two teams. Rochester will play Binghamton and Utica 10 times each (five home, five road), and will face Cleveland eight times (four home, four road) for the second straight year.
Rochester’s remaining North Division matchups include six games (three home, three road) each against Toronto and Belleville, and four (two home, two road) against Laval. One of the Marlies' home games will take at Scotiabank Arena, while the other two will be held at nearby Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto.
The Amerks will again play the entire Atlantic Division, with four games (two home, two road) each against the Charlotte Checkers, who joined the Eastern Conference prior to the 2017-18 season, and Springfield Thunderbirds. The defending Calder Cup champion Checkers make their only appearance in Rochester on back-to-back nights Dec. 6-7.
Rochester will play four home games in October, with a season-high seven home games in December and February. The Amerks play only two sets of three-and-threes, down from five last season, and they have play two games in a row at home once in the first two months of the season, which will take place Nov. 13 and Nov. 15.
Additionally, Rochester's season-high six-game home stand will take place Feb. 16-29, and it travels to Utica on New Years Eve. For the full schedule, click here.
