Rochester developer Robert C. Morgan has sold the Cheektowaga property containing the area's first Chick-fil-A restaurant, reaping $2.825 million in cash from the deal.
Morgan — through Morgan Cheektowaga LLC — sold the restaurant at 1753 Walden Ave. to Bruce 5 LLC, which is controlled by Bernadette O'Connor of Long Island City in Queens.
Located just west of the Walden Galleria mall, the 1.44-acre property features a one-story red-brick restaurant building totaling 5,034 square feet. It's the former site of Famous Dave's restaurant, which was demolished to make way for the popular chicken eatery, which opened last November.
Morgan — whose Morgan Communities owns more than 36,000 apartment units in 14 states, as well as retail and commercial properties — was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of mortgage and insurance fraud related to his financing of multifamily property purchases and development projects.
The 114-count indictment also named his son, Todd, as well as Buffalo mortgage broker Frank Giacobbe and another Morgan executive, Michael Tremiti. Three other people have pleaded guilty to federal charges in the widening probe.
