Falls man indicted on charges of making off with taxi during robbery

A Niagara Falls man pleaded not guilty in Niagara County Court Wednesday to an indictment accusing him of stealing a taxicab after the driver fled when the suspect allegedly pulled a knife on him during a robbery.

Davon D. Handley, 22, of Willow Avenue, was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Assistant District Attorney Ryan K. Parisi said Handley allegedly tried to rob the cab driver around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 21 in the 1100 block of 19th Street in the Falls, but after the driver ran away, Handley allegedly drove off in the cab.

Handley was arrested on Jan. 15.
