TUNED UP – The Town of Tonawanda holds its 2019 Summer Concert Series in a new location – the front lawn on the Sheridan Drive side of the town’s Aquatic and Fitness Center. The first of nine concerts takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday and features the Carnival Kids Steel Orchestra from Lancaster. BackBeat 64, a Beatles tribute band, plays at 7 p.m. Thursday, with a rain date next Monday. Concerts continue through Aug. 15.

WEED WHACKERS – Learn about the invasive plants in Chautauqua Lake and what can be done about them at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a free hour-long program at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, 311 Curtis St., Jamestown.
Want to join the fight against those problematic aquatic weeds? Go for Citizen Scientist Field Training from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. It begins at the Turner Community Center in Chautauqua, then takes to the lake in kayaks after lunch from the boat launch at Lakeside Park in Mayville. Kayaks will be provided at no charge for those who do not bring their own.

EMPTY THE ATTIC – Asbury United Methodist Church, 850 Dodge Road, Getzville, is collecting clean and saleable clothing, shoes, bedding, jewelry, CDs, records, appliances and kitchenware through July 25. Items may be dropped off at the entrance to the church office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. For more info, call Don McQuistion at 691-4264.

REUNION TIME – The Class of 1969 and all of the classes from the 1970s at Lafayette High School will have a reunion from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at the school. For more info, call Margaret Pagliacci at 908-9184.

A reunion will be held Sept. 7 for those who grew up in Buffalo’s Old First Ward and attended St. Brigid’s School, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, St. Valentine’s School, Bishop Quigley School, St. Stephen’s School, School 4 or School 34.
