Security guard wounded in shooting at East Side fast food restaurant

A private security guard was shot in the leg about 8:30 p.m. Sunday outside the Burger King restaurant at 1066 Broadway at Woltz Avenue, Buffalo Police reported.

Police spokesman Capt. Jeff Rinaldo said the guard’s injuries were serious. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Police cordoned off most of the restaurant’s parking lot and were questioning witnesses and people who live and work in the neighborhood.

A person who works in the neighborhood told The Buffalo News that he heard three shots, ran over to the restaurant and saw the guard on the ground at the intersection.

“The guy yelled, ‘I’m shot. They shot me. Call the police,’ ” the man said. “I called 911 right away. He was bleeding quite a bit.”

A neighbor told The News, “Some young guys have been over there harassing the security guard. He has asked them to leave on several occasions and they kept coming back.”
