O'CONNELL - Kathleen Anne "Kathy"
Kathy O'Connell passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 in Marathon, FL, surrounded by her family, friends and the bright blue waters of the Florida Keys. Born in Buffalo, NY in 1953, Kathy was the first of Harold and Anne McQuestion's four children. Kathy is survived by her husband of more than 46 years, Timothy J. "Tim" O'Connell; her two accomplished daughters, Casey and Sandi, their loving husbands, Billy and Anthony; and her four energetic grandchildren: Connor, Liam, Eloise, and Jackson; she is also survived by her brothers Harold and Mark; and her sister, Aileen. Kathy loved all things cool and did cool things. She flew the Concorde to Paris with Nancy Reagan. She spent a whole day with Billy Martin in Las Vegas, who then invited her and Tim to his roast and sat them at Whitey Ford's table. She gambled in Vegas, in the islands, on cruises, at race tracks and she was LUCKY. She was particularly good at picking horses at the Fort Erie race track! Kathy loved the Florida Keys and her adopted hometown of Marathon. Kathy and Tim piloted their boat down the Intercoastal Waterway from Buffalo to Marathon on five round trips-a two-captain operation to be sure-all for the love of the Keys and being out on the water. Kathy loved classic rock and roll, especially the Rolling Stones and Mick Jagger in particular. Kathy loved building great businesses, including the famous bar McQ's Tavern in Niagara Falls, NY, Productive Transportation in Tonawanda, NY and most recently, the Overseas Pub & Grill in Marathon, FL. She ran these businesses, sold them, built new ones, and was an entrepreneurial powerhouse, all done with great employees, great customers, a supportive family, and her forever-partner, Tim. Through the years, Tim and Kathy truly loved one another and loved spending time together: they adventured around the world, traveled to Aruba every January for 40 years, took weekend trips to Atlantic City in the early 90's, went on boat trips around the Great Lakes, and made countless trips to visit Casey and Sandi wherever they lived. Kathy: you shined brightest during both the best and the toughest times in our lives. We will forever remember you with your long flowing blonde hair and bright smile. There will be a Memorial Service for Kathy on September 14, 2019 for family and close friends at the LaSalle Yacht Club, 73 South 68th Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14304 from 12 - 3 PM.
