Incumbent Diane M. Terranova beat newcomer and endorsed candidate Cynthia A. Maciejewski in the Democratic primary for Lancaster town clerk Tuesday.
Terranova had 55% of the vote to Maciejewski's 45%, with 100% of precincts reporting.
Terranova also had an easy victory on the Conservative line at 81%, over Donald Biondo, 58, who got 9% and Brian Sabatino, 44, who had 9%.
But she lost by a wide margin to Anne V. Desiderio, 54, in the Republican primary, meaning they will square off in November. Desiderio had 71% to Terranova's 29%.
The embattled Terranova, who was denied her party’s backing, was endorsed by the Lancaster Republican Committee and Erie County Conservative Party.
Maciejewski worked 21 years as a clerk in the Lancaster Building and Zoning Department. She received the Democratic and Working Families endorsements.
Desiderio, a health-care representative for more than 25 years and lifelong Republican, was supported by the state committee of the Independence Party.
