Bo Bichette homered for the first time since April 13, but the Bisons fell to Louisville, 3-2, Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Bichette has been rehabbing a hand injury he suffered in April when he was hit by a pitch against Syracuse.
He batted in the leadoff position for the second night in a row Friday and opened the game with his home run to center field on an 0-2 pitch.
Bichette finished the game with two of the Bisons’ three hits, the other a bloop single in the eighth inning.
Billy McKinney singled in the top of the seventh for the Herd’s only other hit.
Pitcher Ryan Feierabend was tagged with his second loss of the year. He threw five innings, gave up six hits and was charged with all three Louisville runs.
Buffalo’s only other run of the night was scored during a wild second inning. Jonathan Davis was hit by a pitch to open the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch immediately after.
Reese McGuire popped out, but a fielding error by the Bats’ Alex Blandino gave Davis a free pass to third base and Richard Urena was able to reach first.
Andy Burns grounded into a forceout at second, but Davis made it home for Buffalo’s second run.
Louisville chipped away at the lead shortly after. Rob Refsnyder singled to score Phillip Irvin from second base in the bottom of the second.
Aristides Aquino homered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at two runs each.
Christian Colon doubled to open the bottom of the sixth and scored on the next at-bat. He is third in the league in hits with 73.
Lucas Sims kept the Bisons at bay by throwing 7∏ innings of three-hit ball. He struck out six and did not walk a batter as he earned his fourth win of the season.
Buffalo’s six-game road trip continues Saturday as the Bisons (30-35) continue their series with Louisville (27-40) at 6:30 p.m.
The series concludes Sunday at 2 p.m. The Herd will return home on Tuesday.
