With Stanley Cup decided, here are Sabres' draft picks

The Buffalo Sabres will get the 31st pick in the first round of the NHL entry draft next week after the St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup.

The Sabres get the pick as part of last summer's Ryan O'Reilly trade and also have their own Round 1 selection, at No. 7 overall.

The Sabres also had acquired the San Jose Sharks' first-rounder last year in the Evander Kane trade and will send the Sharks' pick at No. 29 to the Anaheim Ducks to complete the pretrade deadline acquisition of Brandon Montour.

The Sabres could have as many as eight picks when the draft is held June 21-22 in Vancouver. However, the Sharks have the option to retain the fourth-round pick from the Kane trade. Doing so would cost San Jose a 2020 third-round selection.

Buffalo also will have its own third-round pick, three in the sixth round and one in the seventh.

Sabres' picks:

  • Round 1: No. 7 and 31
  • Round 2: No pick
  • Round 3: No. 67
  • Round 4: No pick (pending Sharks' decision at No. 122)
  • Round 5: No pick
  • Round 6: No. 160, No 175 (from Winnipeg), No. 177 (from Toronto)
  • Round 7: No. 191

Note: The Sabres' fourth-round pick that was part of the Conor Sheary trade with Pittsburgh could become a third-round pick. In that scenario, Pittsburgh would have No. 67 and the Sabres would retain No. 98.
