Torn-Down Tuesday: Delaware Avenue's 'plane on top of the building'

Plenty of inquires come to the Torn-Down Tuesday desk, usually starting with the phrase, "Do you remember?"

The emails come to me after Google searches, social media queries and maybe even sleepless nights of wonder.

A handful of times over the last several years, there have been inquires about "the plane on top of the building" somewhere near the Kenmore border. That didn't sound familiar, but my promise is usually that I'll keep my eyes open and share if I find anything.

The Cessna spent most of the 1980s on top of a car dealer on Delaware Avenue. This photo of the roof of F&L Motors, 2565 Delaware Ave., was taken in 1986.

Through the 1950s, the dealership was known as Military Motors, and was also the home of an Esso station.

The plane is long gone, but 2565 Delaware Ave. is now the home of Jim's Steakout.
