In 1987, Buffalo Place and Fountain Plaza hosted the first "Thursday at the Park" concert. Within a year, the after-work happy hour concerts outgrew the space and were moved to Lafayette Square, becoming the popular "Thursday at the Square" weekly concert series.
Now, the newly renamed "Thursday & Main" concert series (formerly Queen City Social) hearkens back to those days with a schedule that mixes top local and regional music talent along national recording artists with Buffalo ties including Willie Nile, who opens the series on June 13.
You'll find familiar names from the "Thursday at the Square" days, including Ron Hawkins, who performed multiple times at the Square with Lowest of the Low. Hawkins returns with a solo show on Aug. 1.
Concerts run from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at Fountain Plaza in downtown Buffalo. Food will be available from such restaurants as Fat Bob’s Smokehouse, Frankie Primo’s +39, and SOHO Burger Bar.
