I’d like to thank the News for the recent coverage of the Green Light bill, which would restore access to driver’s licenses to all qualified New York residents. This important legislation rightly deserves our attention.
Part of my job as a professor at the University at Buffalo is to do research. In my research on the economic impacts of immigrant diversity in the United States, the data show that immigrants are actually good for regional wages. But perhaps most interestingly, the data show that this positive outcome is much stronger in in places with policies that help immigrants fully participate in local life. The Green Light bill is an example of this kind of policy. I would ask my legislative representative Sen. Tim Kennedy to join the lead of local Assemblymember Crystal Peoples-Stokes in cosponsoring.
