Lockport skatepark to get finishing touches for July 4 reopening

Lockport's skatepark in Outwater Park will complete its facelift Saturday when volunteers from District Council 4 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades join city officials and Friends of the Railyard Skatepark to paint and put other finishing touches on the newly reconstructed recreational facility.

The 13-year-old wooden skatepark needed repairs to its ramps and other elements to  keep it functional as plans proceed for a new concrete park. The goal of the skatepark is to provide opportunities for youth in a safe environment, so that they don't have to skateboard on streets or private property.

The painting project will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, with the park expected to reopen July 4.
