Lancaster residents may now leave their unbagged grass clippings at the curb for pickup, said Daniel Amatura, highway superintendent.
Tree branches – no longer than 8 feet long and 6 inches in diameter – twigs, shrubs, stumps, roots and logs left at the curb will also be removed by the town.
Items will not be picked up if they are in bags, Amatura said. Residents are asked to call the highway department at 683-3426 when brush is placed at the street.
Two months ago, town officials imposed a $5 bag fee for non-food garbage left curbside.
Lancaster is not alone in imposing an extra bag fee, though its fee may be the most costly. The Village of Orchard Park and Lockport charge $2 per bag. Niagara Falls now charges $5 for the fourth bag left curbside.
