Hamburg's Gear for Adventure expands to Amherst

Amherst has a new, locally owned outdoors store: Gear for Adventure.

The store sells equipment and apparel for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and paddling. Owned by Sarah and Kevin Beckwith, it's located at 3906 Maple Road, just north of Boulevard Mall.

It carries kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, tents and sleeping bags for summer, featuring such brands as Wilderness Systems, Perception, Bic Sports, Big Agnes, MSR and Eureka. It also carries apparel from such brands as Patagonia, the North Face, Kuhl and Outdoor Research. In the winter, it offers snowshoes, insulated boots and cold-weather apparel from brands such as Darn Tough and Smartwool.

The store also rents equipment such as kayaks, paddle boards, bear kegs, backpacks, tents and sleeping bags.

It is the company's second location after its Hamburg store at 305 Buffalo St. The company was established online in 2004.
