More bike parking built on the Medical Campus

Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus Inc. recently opened new, secure indoor bike parking for those who commute to the Medical Campus by bike.

The move by the nonprofit planning organization more than doubled the indoor bike parking available to those who use the campus, and added 24 lockers in the parking garage at 854 Ellicott St., near John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, Buffalo General Medical Center, and Gates Vascular Institute.

Space now exists for 30 bikes in the new parking facility, with 36 more spots under cover nearby and 16 bikes outside. A vending machine stocked with tire tubes, patch kits, lights and other bike-related amenities also was part of the new project.

BNMC Inc. six years ago set up space for 15 bikes in a renovated shipping container and a bike fix-it station at Ellicott and Virginia streets near its headquarters.

The Medical Campus has the densest bicycle parking in the city, with 333 free spaces, 100 more than last year. GObike Buffalo will manage indoor bicycle parking campus-wide as part of its longtime partnership with the organization.

“We are proud to have built an active commuter-friendly culture on the Medical Campus,” BNMC Inc. President and CEO Matt Enstice said in a news release. “We worked closely with our transportation partners to create the region’s first mobility hub here on the Medical Campus and we continue to improve our infrastructure and commuting options to ensure efficient, safe, and healthy ways for employees, patients, and visitors to access the Medical Campus.”
