DressBarn is closing the door on all 650 of its stores, including four in the Buffalo Niagara market.
No closing date has been set, and operations will continue as usual for now, the chain's owner, Ascena Retail Group, said in a statement. Stores will continue to process merchandise returns, refunds and gift cards.
DressBarn has locations in Amherst, Cheektowaga, Hamburg and at the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls. Individual store closing dates will be available at a later time, Ascena said.
Ascena's debt load and financial troubles began to mount when it acquired Ann Taylor and Loft in 2015. The company has been criticized for failing to adapt to the digital era and for not investing in its brands, including DressBarn.
Ascena also owns Catherines, Cacique, Lane Bryant and Justice. It recently sold the Maurices brand. Closing DressBarn will allow it to devote resources to its more profitable brands, the company said.
