Two inmates at the Erie County Holding Center were each charged with felony assault for allegedly beating up another inmate last week, the Erie County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Thursday.
The alleged incident took place just before midnight on May 10, officials said.
After a fight broke out in the housing unit, deputies pulled two inmates off a third. The victim was first taken to the medical unit for evaluation and later taken to Erie County Medical Center for additional treatment. He suffered multiple upper body injuries, officials said.
The two inmate suspects were identified as Samuel Santiago, 25, of Buffalo, who was in the Holding Center pending transfer to a state correctional facility, and Donspencer Williams, 29, of Lackawanna, who was being held on $20,000 bail for various charges from multiple jurisdictions, sheriff's officials said.
They each were charged with felony, second-degree assault and misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault and obstruction of governmental administration.
