Head to these local pop culture conventions

Every summer, the Buffalo Niagara region, Rochester and southern Ontario are transformed into holy ground for fans of comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, manga, horror and other delightful forms of entertainment.

If geekdom and fan-love were a religion, then it’s time to get ready to worship.

Here are this summer’s offerings:

Nickel City Con

When: 3 to 8 p.m. May 17, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 19
Where: Buffalo Niagara Convention Center
Who it's for: Fans of comic books, films, TV, gaming, manga and anime.
Don’t miss: Linda Blair (“The Exorcist”) and Tony Todd (“Candyman”).
Tickets: $20 for May 17 and 19, $30 for May 18; $55 for three-day pass.

Anime North

When: 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. May 24, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. May 25 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 26.
Where: Toronto Congress Centre and Delta Hotel Airport, Toronto
Who it's for: Fans of anime, manga, some gaming and comics.
Don’t miss: Josh Grelle (“Attack on Titan,” “Yuri on Ice”), Aaron Roberts (“Dragon Ball Super,” “My Hero Academia”), Alexis Tipton (“My Hero Academia,” “Ace Attorney”).
Tickets: Preregistration is $35 for May 24 and 26, $45 for May 25; $60 weekend admission. (Add $5 for at-the-door admission)

Niagara Falls Comic Con

When: 3 to 8 p.m. June 7, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 8 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 9
Where: Scotiabank Convention Centre, Niagara Falls, Ont.
Who it's for: Fans of comics, gaming, TV, movies, wrestling, horror and anime.
Don’t miss: Billy Dee Williams (“Star Wars” franchise), Pom Klementieff ("Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," “Avengers: Infinity War”), Jerry Mathers (“Leave It to Beaver") and Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”).
Tickets: $25.95 June 7, $39.95 June 8, $31.95 June 9 and $67.95 for three-day pass.

Buffalo Comicon

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 23
Where: Buffalo Marriott Niagara, Amherst
Who it's for: Primarily comic book fans.
Tickets: TBA.

Sterling Renaissance Festival

When: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday from July 6 to Aug. 18.
Where: 15385 Farden Road, Sterling
Who it's for: Fans of medieval history, fantasy and “Game of Thrones.”
Tickets: $26.95 per day, $45.95 for two-day pass and $189.95 for season pass.

Fan Expo Toronto

When: 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 22, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 23, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 25.
Where: Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto
Who it's for: Everyone. This is the third-largest fan event in North America (behind San Diego Comic Con and the New York Comic Con). It has it all.
Don’t miss: Edward James Elmos (“Battlestar Galactica”), Zachary Levi (“Shazam”), Jason Mamoa (“Aquaman”), Steve Blum (“Cowboy Bebop”), Kimberly Brooks (“Voltron, “Static Shock”).
Tickets: $19 to $49 a day (U.S.). Also available: child, youth and family passes plus four-day deluxe and premium.

AniBash

When: 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25.
Where: Seneca Park Longhouse Shelter, Rochester
Who it's for: Anime and manga fans.
Tickets: Free.

RocCon

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 14 and 15.
Where: Kodak Event Center, Rochester
Who it's for: Anyone with an appreciation for comics, TV and films, with some anime and manga thrown in.
Don’t miss: Michael Dorn (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), Patricia Quinn (“Rocky Horror Picture Show”), Walter Jones (“Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers”)
Tickets: $21 each day; $36 two-day pass.

Frightmare in The Falls

When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 26 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 27
Where: ScotiaBank Convention Centre, Niagara Falls, Ont.
Who it's for: Horror fans.
Don’t miss: Kane Hodder (“Friday the 13th” franchise), R.A. Mihailoff (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre III”), Linnea Quigley (“The Return of the Living Dead”).
Tickets: On sale 10 a.m. June 10.
