Applications for the spring – and summer – of the city's Queen City Pop-Up retail initiative are available.
The program – sponsored by the Buffalo Urban Development Corp., Buffalo Place and Working for Downtown – seeks to bring more retail small businesses to the Shops at Market Arcade on Main Street in downtown Buffalo, in a bid to fill vacant storefronts while also supporting the growth of new entrepreneurs.
The program offers free storefront space for two months, with the hope that the store owners will see enough of a boost in business as they test their products that they decide to stay downtown.
Previous participants have cited sales increases of more than 50 percent, and several have opened permanent shops.
The 2019 "spring edition" will be held from June 27 to Aug. 30 at 617 Main St., across from Shea's Buffalo Theatre, in space donated by landlord Sinatra & Co. Real Estate. Request for proposals can be obtained from BUDC's office at 95 Perry St., or online at the three sponsor websites. Proposals are due by 4 p.m. on June 3.
