It's official: The Sabres announced Ralph Krueger as the 19th coach in franchise history with Sabres GM Jason Botteril holding a press conference at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Is Ralph Krueger the correct hire for the Buffalo Sabres? Sabres beat reporter Lance Lysowski answered questions and gave his analysis of on Facebook Live Wednesday morning.
What are your thoughts of the hire?
Here is early social media reaction to the Sabres' expected hiring of Krueger.
I’m not overly thrilled but I’m not disappointed with the Ralph Krueger hire, I’m neutral about it for now. But the negativity around this team and this culture needs to change. So welcome to Buffalo Coach Krueger hoping for the best! #Sabres

The hiring of Ralph Krueger has made me happier than any other signing in Buffalo sports coaching history 😁😍

As I wrote last night, happy to see Ralph Krueger back in the NHL. That said, a lot of #Oilers fans are crying over spilled milk this morning. Let's not forget Krueger's Oilers were a lousy possession team (44.6 CF%) and rode a .930 SV% while missing the playoffs.

Happy with Ralph Krueger, but this is only one piece of a big offseason for GM Botterill. On to roster surgery/construction where the bigger decisions will have to be made #sabres

Gotta say: if the owners want a guy with experience and Botterill actually *does* want an innovative thinker that breaks that mold, Ralph Krueger is the perfect loophole for him

Wait until Krueger sees the Sabres together on the ice for the first time. pic.twitter.com/pVet5nEHs4

Ralph Krueger sounds like a decent hire. Big team guy, group think/decision making. not really known as a detailed X/O guy.
Here’s a vid I had to dig up of him working through a major problem....very engaging. Makes everyone feel like their opinion matters. 👍 #Sabres pic.twitter.com/nzg9JF5LZi

I actually wonder if one of the things Krueger brings from club soccer is the idea to rotate more often. It’s an idea that I’ve been thinking about a lot for bottom of the roster guys and is commonplace in soccer

“Jason Hires Krueger” is my favorite horror-comedy movie. #Sabres

I don’t know enough about Krueger to have a strong feeling one way or the other, but there is one thing that I like about this hire. Botterill is taking a risk. If he gets this one wrong, he knows he’s most likely gone. He would go safer if he didn’t truly believe in RK.

Remember a few weeks ago when Edmonton media contacted Krueger & asked if he would be interested in a POHO or coaching job here?
He said he was looking for a new challenge.
Clearly, he didn’t want to come back to the #Oilers.
Great hire by the #Sabres.
