Drug charges result from police pursuit that ends in store parking lot

A Lockport man and a Friendship woman were arrested on drug charges after a brief pursuit, according to New York State police.

Michael R. Daskavitz, 21, and Coreen R. Stewart, 19, were arrested in the parking lot of Tractor Supply, 378 W. Main St. in the Village of Arcade.

Daskavitz was charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, reckless driving and third-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Stewart was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

State troopers attempted to stop Daskavitz’s vehicle on Route 39 in the Village of Arcade when Daskavitz failed to comply and began to flee, police said. Daskavitz led troopers on a short pursuit that ended in the parking lot.

During the arrest, troopers discovered "approximately 10.5 ounces of marijuana and its derivatives, and a quantity of several prescription pills for which neither subject possessed a valid prescription," according to a news release.

Daskavitz and Stewart were transported to the Machias State Police Station where they were issued appearance tickets for Arcade Village Court, where they are scheduled to appear later this month.
