Protest planned Thursday in support of whistleblowing seminarians

A demonstration and news conference are planned from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday outside Christ the King Seminary by protesters who allege the seminary and Buffalo Diocese targeted some whistleblowing seminarians.

Organizers Wednesday said the aim of the demonstration is to express their disappointment that the diocese and seminary may have allegedly launched an investigation of seminarians who leaked information about an alleged inappropriate conversation that they overheard, by three diocesan priests, later placed on temporary leave of absence by the diocese.

A spokeswoman for the diocese Wednesday denied any such investigation had been undertaken by the diocese.

The news conference event is scheduled for 2 p.m. outside the seminary.

Robert M. Hoatson, president of Road to Recovery and a member of Catholic Whistleblowers, is an organizer of the event.
